Stolen Words

Today in our second PB Blog, we read “Stolen Words” by Melanie Florence and Gabrielle Grimard which a book for 7-9 year old’s because it would be hard for a 5 or 6 year to understand the plot of this story. It is about this 7 year old kid and her grandpa. The kid asks her grandpa how to say a word in first nations and the grandpa doesn’t know because he went to residential school and got his first nation culture forced out of him. The kid gets a book from her school about first nation language and gives it to her grandpa and he is super happy about it. I feel the morale of the story is nothing is ever truly forgotten and that someone you love can help you. I think that the story was good but it didn’t really resonate with me that much but it is still a great book that I would recommend.

Hey, Little Ant

Today in our first Picture Book Blog we read “Hey, Little Ant” a story for little kids with lots of pictures by Phillip and Hannah Hoose and illustrated by Debbie Tilley. The book is about this 5 or 6 year old kid and this ant. So this kid is about to step on this ant and the ant is like don’t step on me but the kid says I have a house and a family and your just an ant with no home, and the ant says I have everything you have to and the book leaves us on a cliffhanger on if the kid squashed the ant or not. I thought that the book was good and had a good morale. I feel the morale was that every life counts and everyone has a family. This book was really good and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good children’s book.
